If you've been listening to KDRD for very long, you know that I (Vicki) am not afraid to "speak out" when I feel it is necessary. But I know not everyone finds it easy to walk up to the owner of their favorite deli, coffee shop or market and ask them to please provide recycling bins, recyclable containers, etc. etc. etc. That's why I'm sharing with you the letter I wrote to my favorite local bakery. Please feel free to use it as inspiration for composing your own letter to those businesses you enjoy but who need to improve when it comes to recycling:
Dear Owner of Acme Bakery,
First of all, I love almost everything you folks bake and cook. I frequently drive many miles out of my way in order to enjoy one of your sandwiches or buy some of your fabulous cookies or turnovers.
However, I was very disappointed when I visited last week to see that you still do not have a recycle bin for the plastic and glass juice, soda and water bottles (and plastic dishes and utensils) you sell to your customers who "eat in".
I know you must be as concerned as I am about the environment and the impact that each of us has on the problem--and the solution for the future. I urge you to install a recycle bin for customer use. Not only will you be recycling glass metal and plastic from your own store, you will be setting a positive example to everyone of your customers.
Thank you for your excellent product and contribution to the quality of life here in Sussex County.
Kindest regards,
